DEALING EXCLUSIVELY WITH BLACK AND WHITE IMAGERY, STERN PRODUCES EXQUISITELY CRAFTED PRINTS USING TRADITIONAL DARKROOM PROCESSES AS WELL AS DIGITAL PRINTING. THIS EXHIBIT FOCUSED ON FIVE DISTINCT SERIES: WHITENESS, ANIMUS, GHOST CIRCLES, BEYOND BONES, AND FULL CIRCLE. THE NEW YORK ARTIST CREATES WORK THAT IGNORES CURRENT PHOTOGRAPHIC TRENDS IN FAVOR OF HER OWN UNIQUE AND INTIMATE VIEW OF THE INTERNAL WORLD; A WORLD THAT COULD BE SAID TO BE 'SEEN AND UNSEEN.'

Photographer Lynn Stern's work ignores current photographic trends in favor of the artist's unique and intimate view of the internal world; a world that could be said to be 'seen and unseen.' Stern explores imagery that in her words, "looks inward rather than outward" created in a space she controls.

"I have been working inside - in both senses of the word: creating images in the studio rather than looking for them outside. In this studio work I am as interested in the spaces between objects as I am in the objects themselves, however compelling their forms may be.” 

Stern deals primarily with still life images that function as the ground for her real subject which is light. 

“There is a particular quality of light that has been described by Paul Guinard as ‘inner, incorporeal light which flows everywhere inexhaustibly and is the manifestation of energy, life and movement.’ That quality of luminosity, which partakes of both space and energy, is of primary importance in my work.”
