john seward's homage to contemporary painters
Inspired by the work of Willem de Kooning, the photographs in Homage to Contemporary Painters by John Seward are meant to be viewed as "photographs of original, contemporary paintings, introducing the element of the figure in a very subtle way that plays on the sub conscience." Seward created the images by first creating painted backdrops of famous works by mid-century masters. He then photographed nude models posed in front of them in a way that made them become part of the painting simulated in the backdrop.
